Interesting Places in Shanghai (Page 1)

The Bund ("Wai Tan")

The Number 1 tourist location. Taking pictures at The Bund is a must for all visitors, it's proof that you have visited Shanghai. Looking across the Huang Pu river, you will take in the sights of the Lu Jia Zui financial district. You will get different feelings during daytime and night time, so, I would recommend visiting around late afternoon. Besides, you can continue on to shop at the nearby Nanjing Lu after spending some night time at The Bund.

Nanjing Road (Nanjing Lu) Shopping Street

The Number 1 shopping street in Shanghai. It is near The Bund. Only pedestrians are allowed on the shopping street section of Nanjing Lu. Here, you can find many shops. There are also restaurants. If you are not buying anything, go there to look at people! Recommended to go at night when all the shops light up.

Lu Jia Zui Commercial Area

This is the commercial area across from The Bund, in Pudong. It is the most modern part of Shanghai. Go there to marvel at the modern architectural buildings, walk around and shop. There are restaurants around the area and also a major shopping centre. The Oriental TV Tower is located here, and you can get up there (for a fee).

Shanghai Old Street (Lao Jie)

Shop for souvenirs, memorabilia, fake antiques, classical paintings etc. etc. This place is full of shops. Before you buy anything.... Bargain! Do not be shy. Start bargaining from 30% of the offered price. Do not pay more than 50% of the offered price (actually 50% is already expensive, but it saves you time). If you are turned down, walk away, there are many other shops selling the same things... they will call you back if your price is acceptable. And there is no embarassment going back to the same shop that turned you down before, it's normal. Some shop keepers may pretend to be angry, but it's all in good spirit of the way they run business... no worries.
