Shanghai Metro (Subway)
The Shanghai Metro train is a major mean of transport
for most locals. Shanghai has an extensive subway network, with 9 different lines.
Actually, not all of them are underground.
Lines 1 (Red Line) & 2 (Green Line) have stops at multiple major destinations
in the city, including Nanjing Road, People's Square, Xu Jia Hui, Hengshan Lu and
Lu Jia Zhui, to name a few.
If you're on Line 2, you can go all the way to Longyang Lu station in Pudong and
hop on to the Maglev Train to go to the airport. It is economical, and more importantly,
the timing is predictable (roughly an hour's journey if you start your journey from
a station in Puxi).
Shanghai Metro fares starts from RMB 3 to RMB 6, depending on how far you travel.
You will find that it is more cost effective if you travel longer distances. It is
a good way to travel economically in Shanghai. And more importantly, it will give
you a taste of Shanghaiese local life.
