Shanghai Taxi
When you are in Shanghai, you will find that taxis are all over the place. Taxis
in Shanghai are generally safe, compare to other cities in China. It is usually
very easy to flag one down. But, during rush hour around 6-9PM, it can be quite
difficult to get a taxi, especially at busy places.
All taxis have fare metres, and 99% of the time, the driver will use it. If you
encounter a driver that does not want to use the fare metres (probably trying to
make some extra bucks from a foreigner), just flag down a different taxi.
Taxi fare starts at CNY 12 for the first 3 km. For the next 10 km, it is CNY 2.40/kilometre.
Thereafter, it is CNY 3.60/kilometre. At night from 11PM to 5AM the next morning,
the fare is more expensive: CNY 16 for the first 3 km, CNY 3.10/km for the next
10 km and thereafter, CNY 4.10/km.
The taxi driver's employee number will be clearly displayed in the front. It is
a good idea to write it down, in case you leave anything behind, or need to complain
on anything. You should also ask
for the invoice ("fa biao") after you have paid your fare. The "fa biao" will have
information about the driver, in case you need to contact them later.
The bigger taxi companies in Shanghai are Da Zhong, Qiang Sheng and Ba Shi. Their taxi's colors are
sky blue, yellow/orange and green respectively. Taxis of these
companies are usually newer,
and their management system is better.
You can book a cab through the numbers below:
96822 (Da Zhong), 021-62580000 (Qiang Sheng), 96840 (Ba Shi).
